Things to do around New Mills

Northumbria and the Borders are fortunate to have many sandy beaches with castles dotted along the coastline, this is great walking country. There’s pony trekking, working farms and Berwick is able to boast the only intact Elizabethan walls in Europe and has all the amenities of a Market Town, including a cinema, leisure centre, library, and a theatre. Market days are every Wednesday & Saturday when local traders come to set up their stalls in the High Street and there are regular ’Farmers Markets’.


The railway station is on the main line from London to Edinburgh, Aberdeen and beyond.  If you are driving a short trips will take you….


South to Holy Island or Lindisfarne, which is recognised as the seat of Christianity in Europe. Bamburgh CastleAlnwick Castle  and Gardens or Seahouses where you can take boat trips to the Farne Islands, where you will find sanctuaries for Birds and seals or the Longstone Lighthouse, of our own heroine, Grace Darling is famed. 


Travel North to Eyemouth and it’s famous Fishing Port and once a great Fishing Fleet, Coldingham with its beautiful beaches or Ayton Castle.


Go inland to some of the most beautiful countryside straddling the Border of England and Scotland. Wynd your way through the rolling landscapes, small villages and Market Towns of ‘The Borders’ which are a joy to visit.  There are a whole range of attractions and activities on offer but with the added bonus of being away from the crowds of other areas in the UK.
