About New Mills

Comfort and relaxation in a 'Home from Home' in rural Northumberland

New Mills  was originally owned by ‘The Freemen’ of Berwick on Tweed and the Mill itself serviced Berwick Borough with much of its corn milling needs and dates back to the 17th Century.  Following the destruction of the mill by fire in 1910, it was never rebuilt and the property was  purchased by our Grandfather, George Mabon, in 1921.  The main features of the Mill  which remain, are the house, the Barn and the Weir (locally know as a ‘Cauld’).

Our family has utilised the property in many ways over the past 90 years – Market Gardening, Dairy Business, Pig Farming, B&B, the housing of Evacuees during WW2  and was the base for the family run Salmon Net Fishing business ‘Whiteadder Bridge Fisheries’

A mere mile from Scotland's border, not only is New Mills in the enviable position of having the best bits of both Scotland and England minutes from the doorstep but, those who find themselves lodged in this lovely Berwick Holiday Cottage will enjoy the kind of picturesque views and seclusion which come from being situated in 19 acres of it's own private land.
